Internships and Volunteers

Paryavaran Mitra welcomes interns and volunteers. They may participate in a wide variety of our projects, campaigns, research and documentation areas depending on their skills and interests.

A. INTERNSHIPS

I. Eligibility:

1.Academic Background -

Undergraduate, Graduate or Post Graduate students with interest in areas such as Social work, Environmental law, Environmental Science and Engineering, Capacity building, Urban Planning, Architecture, Sociology and Human Rights.

2. Language –

Interns should be able to converse, write and read in either English or Gujarati. A working knowledge of the style="color:#339900"other language is preferable.

3. Skills and Experience -

Enthusiasm to learn more and question is a key prerequisite for this internship. Paryavaran Mitra shall facilitate in finding areas of work of interest to the intern. Other required skills are organizational skills, writing and communication skills, computer skills, field experience and the ability to work independently.

II. Requirements

1. Student’s intimation at least one month in advance.

2. Curriculum Vitae

3. Letter of Purpose by student or Reference letter from the Head of the Department of college or professor stating intern’s skills and interests on the starting date of the internship.

III. Additional Information

Computers -

We may provide a computer for interns but if interns can bring their own laptops it is an advantage.

Duration –

Paryavaran Mitra encourages internships of a minimum duration of at least one month. Interns are welcome to intern for longer periods too

Internship Costs -

For outstation interns, Paryavaran Mitra cannot provide accommodation, however it can help find a suitable home stay or a budget hotel. Food costs too will not be covered by Paryavaran Mitra. However if there is any field work, we will reimburse the cost of travel expenses incurred for the field travel.

Letter of Acknowledgement –

We will give a certificate/letter of acknowledgement upon completion of the internship. Awarding the certificate is at our discretion based on a satisfactory project report and the intern’s participation throughout the duration of the internship.

Stipend/Costs –

Paryavaran Mitra will not be able to provide any financial support for interns.

B. VOLUNTEERS

We welcome volunteers to support activities in a variety of areas. Volunteers may be involved in one or more ways as under: (in alphabetical order)

Education–

Volunteers with a passion to teach or facilitate, with a special focus on environmental education are welcome to help us conduct environmental education in schools. They can also help this outreach through Schools having eco-clubs, colleges with environment departments and a host of such interactive platforms.

Field work/Surveys -

Paryavaran Mitra public interest initiatives constantly requires data from affected communities and public opinion on the status of various issues esp. in rural areas. Students, individuals having flair to talk and gather information from the affected communities and the public are welcome to help us in many of our initiatives

Media -

Paryavaran Mitra campaigns and projects research has to reach the common man and people with skills in mass communication are always needed to support us in writing, designing and dissemination of our work.

Research –

Paryavaran Mitra needs people with an interest and flair for public interest work to help access information through Right to Information, citizen awareness groups to conduct research and analyse the data on various ongoing campaigns.

Support Staff –

Paryavaran Mitra needs volunteers to provide clerical support, organize resources, and process mailings. We will be happy to have anyone with computer skills for word processing, updating our databases, developing communication, screening our documentation and even helping us keep our resources in order.

Translation –

Paryavaran Mitra works on public interest concerns and most of our team members interact with people who speak Gujarati, Kutchi and Hindi. Translators should be able to translate to and from English. They should also be fluent in legal, scientific and official languages. This will help our outreach, raise awareness and empower people with information.

Website updation -

Paryavaran Mitra’s website needs people with web skills to help us keep our website updated at all times and help us make it user-friendly and accessible to all sections of society.
